The Independent Contractors Act (Cth) (‘the IC Act’) provides the Federal Magistrates Court and the Federal Court1 with an unfair contracts jurisdiction in respect of most contracts to which an independent contractor is a party.

This paper analyses the nature of that jurisdiction.
